World Nutella Day

Today has been declared World Nutella Day, as if I needed another reason to enjoy Nutella! Sara from Ms Adventures in Italy and Michelle from Bleeding Espresso are the initiatiors of this project and as soon as I found out about it, I knew I had to be part of it. I also happened to find a wonderful Nutella recipe that I made especially for World Nutella Day!

The first time I found out about Nutella was when I saw a tv commercial on an Italian TV station: a group of teenagers were preparing a surprise for a friend’s birthday: half of a huge French baguette with a thick layer of Nutella and candles on it. I was amazed. Chocolate on bread? But when I discovered how savoury Nutella is, I became a huge fan. I tried other types of chocolate spread, but none even resembled Nutella in consistency, taste and flavour.

For World Nutella Day I made Nutella muffins, inspired from a recipe that I found on a culinary blog.

Ingredients for making 12 Nutella muffins: 3 eggs, 170 grams sugar, 140 grams of soft butter,  200 grams all purpose flour, a pinch of salt, 2 teaspoons baking powder, vanilla extract, Nutella.

Mix the soft butter with the sugar until you obtain a fluffy consistence. Add the eggs, one by one, mixing thoroughly after each egg. Mix the flour with the baking powder and the salt and add it to the liquid ingredients. Mix well, add in the vanilla extract and continue to mix until you have a smooth, creamy dough. Spoon the dough into a muffin tray or into muffin paper cases. Even if you know you are going to love them, don’t fill them all the way up, only up to 3/4 of the space. Take the Nutella jar and go crazy! Spoon as much Nutella as you want on the muffins, although I would recommend only a teaspoon if you’re addicted and half a teaspoon if you are a fan. Use a toothpick to draw nice patterns on the muffin top and bake in preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 Fahrenheit). They are absolutely wonderful!

I love you, Nutella! Thank you for existing!
